ReplyDeleteHe likens it to prostitution, which I think is fitting. Throughout the OT, sexual intimacy is a metaphor for Israel's relationship with God; when Israel strayed--as she so often did--she was described as an unfaithful spouse. Here, God likens idolatry (the selling of one's soul) to prostitution (the selling of one's body). The analogy works for me.
