Deuteronomy 7-8:
7.2 - Isn't mercy good?
7.5 - What was the problem with the natives of the Promised Land?
7.6-8 - What is God's reasoning for choosing Israel?
7.9-10 - How does God interact with those who love Him? Those who hate Him?
7.12-16 - NOTE: I struggle with passages like these, but I think I'm starting to get a handle on them. I really believe what God is saying here is this, if you as a people are living completely perfect, sinless lives (which they won't and can't) then disease and sin will not have a place among you. I think (and I could be wrong) that disease and barrenness are not necessarily a sign of sinfulness among the person who is barren (look at Hannah in 1 Samuel for an example), but the sinfulness that exists among the people.
7.16 - Why is pity here a bad thing?
7.17-19 - What is God telling them here?
7.25-26 - Again, what is the real evil here?
8.2-6 - What was taught during the 40 years in the desert?
8.17 - What is this?
8.19 - What does idolatry bring?

ReplyDeleteI think I agree with you, Andy! I feel much the same way about natural disasters. Are hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc signs that we live in a fallen world? Sure. Can we say that any given disaster was sent as punishment for a specific sin? Not so much--and look what happens to our witness when we try!
