  1. Genesis 28:20-22 What is wrong with Jacob's vow?

    The problem is in the "if...then" phrasing. "If" is a conditional statement, and we've already seen that God's promises--to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob himself (28:13, for example) are unconditional. The language should be "SINCE God is with me...He will be my God."
