  1. Ex 8:15 Who hardens Pharaoh's heart in this instance?

There are some interesting verb shifts in this chapter:
    *7:1-"I will harden Pharaoh's heart"
    *7:13, 22-"Pharaoh's heart became hard"
    *8:15, 32-Pharaoh "hardened his heart"

I'm not sure I fully understand why God hardens hearts and darkens eyes; one of my very first posts to this blog was an effort to work through the idea that Jesus taught in parables to be sure that some people would *not* understand His teaching. Verses 15 and 32 are pretty clear, though: even Pharaoh's own people tell him that the plagues are the work of God (8:19, for example), but he chooses not to listen. He thus can't lay what's about to happen at God's feet; rather, he is bringing the judgment down upon himself.

  2. 9:27 What is this?

It looks kind of like a "foxhole confession" to me! First, it seems almost like a case of "too little, too late." Pharaoh admits only that "*this time* I have sinned"; what about all the other times he didn't let the people go? Not only that, but whatever repentance there was was pretty short-lived: as soon as the hail stops, Pharaoh goes right back to his old hard-hearted ways (v. 34).
